What are you not good at?
- John
I would rather tell you a gap than defend a claim later, so here is the list. I do applied AI and agent work, not data science or ML modelling. My background is not very large traditional enterprise IT. And there are areas I lead rather than operate, which I will come to.

That is a tidy list. What about things you are good at only up to a point?
- John
There is a band of things I am strong at as a leader rather than as a day-to-day operator: ERP modernisation, mobile product ownership and end-user IT. I can set direction, make the calls and own the outcome in those areas, but I would not be the person with hands on the keyboard. The deep, hands-on work for me is commerce architecture, event-driven design, AWS serverless, frontend, Node and TypeScript, integration patterns, the data platform and AI agents.

Why volunteer all this in an interview?
- John
Because candour over polish is how I work, and because it saves everyone time. If a role is mostly ML modelling or running a very large traditional IT estate, I am the wrong hire and you should know that in the first ten minutes. If it needs someone with breadth who still ships, and who will tell you plainly when something is a bad idea, the gaps above will not get in the way.
